See how far you can take your Fliplet app

Enhance designs, create new layouts and build custom features.

Extending Fliplet

Fliplet is built using open technologies to make it flexible and accessible to designers and developers who want to create their own custom features and designs. The platform can either be extended by your team if you have access to technical resources or by the Fliplet team.

Fliplet can be extended in three different ways:

1. In-screen code

HTML, CSS and JavaScript code can be added to existing screens within an app created by Fliplet by clicking the Source code button in the text editor and adding your own code. This method is great for adding interactive functionality, forms, or ajax requests against existing APIs. Find out more

2. Fliplet Plugins

Plugins enable developers to create new features and use them across multiple screens in a mobile app. Plugins can have editing interfaces and a preview for use within Fliplet Studio and will output content to the apps. They are fairly simply to create and use PHP, HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Plugins can also store data on the server.

3. Fliplet Themes

Themes control the look and feel of an app, they include screen templates and determine which plugins are available in each app and each screen. Themes can offer branding configuration or restrict brand changes to ensure a consistent look and feel. Fliplet Plugins such as Google Analytics or other reporting systems can be integrate at the theme level to collect data from all areas of the app.

How Fliplet can meet common use cases

Dynamic graphs based on existing data

Fliplet includes HighCharts, a very flexible chart library and an existing charts plugin. This plugin can be extended to pull data from an existing data source, either a file or an API, and update the charts when the screen is loaded, which is particularly useful for charting data that is frequently updated.

Data and file import

Fliplet, using some embedded JavaScript code via the code editor, could pull data from an API or a web page and display it on a screen within an app created by Fliplet.

PDF integration

Fliplet supports the display of PDF files via the device’s default PDF viewer. Fliplet can retrieve PDF files from an existing source and render them within an app. A plugin would need to be written if Fliplet is to retrieve PDF files from an external server and store them within the app for offline viewing and a plugin would be required to read and write to the filesystem of the device.

Custom account management options

Fliplet includes a simple account management system. Fliplet can be integrated with existing security systems either through the creation of a plugin that checks a user’s details and only displays certain screens if the user has access to them.

Fliplet also integrates with some of the largest mobile security systems from Citrix, Symantec, IBM and others that can limit app access based on who is logged into the mobile device.

A plugin could also be created that allows uploading of multiple accounts via CSV files.

Custom deployment options

Fliplet apps can be wrapped and submitted to internal or external app stores. It is also possible to create a white label version of Fliplet Viewer to share apps internally or externally.
